2018 Seattle Campus Master Plan

Description: The University of Washington Seattle Campus Master Plan guides the physical development of the Seattle Campus. Building on the 2003 plan, the 2018 plan includes a 10-year conceptual plan as required by the City University Agreement. 

Timeline:

  • The Draft CMP and EIS were published on October 5, 2016, followed by a 45 day public comment period.  
  • The Final CMP and EIS were published in July of 2017 and on November 16, 2017 the Seattle Department of Construction and Inspection issued their report and recommendations on the Plan. 
  • On December 8, 11, 12, and 13, 2017, the City of Seattle Hearing Examiner held a hearing on the CMP and on January 16, 2018, issued her report and findings. 
  • The City Council is set to review the CMP in the Winter and Spring of 2019.  Once the review is complete, the City Council and the Board of Regents will both have to approve the CMP before it is officially adopted and implemented by the UW.

2008 Tacoma Campus Master Plan

Description: In the Winter of 2007, the University of Washington Tacoma began a year-long process to revise and improve its campus master plan. Incorporating input from diverse campus and community partners, UW Tacoma crafted a new master planning document, including updated transportation and infrastructure plans, that responds to changes to the campus mission and as well as the evolving needs of the surrounding urban community. The University of Washington Board of Regents approved the updated master plan on November 20, 2008.

2017 UW Bothell & Cascadia College Campus Master Plan

Description: The UW Bothell + Cascadia College Campus Master Plan (CMP), completed in December 2017, is the result of a joint collaboration between both institutions with coordination and cooperation with the City of Bothell and the community. The CMP establishes a shared long-term vision for the campus, serving as the basis for future development and regulatory action.

2017 Housing Comprehensive Master Plan

Description: The Housing Master Plan (HMP) was started in 2007 and began with a comprehensive study of the demand for housing, including looking at desired room types (doubles, singles, apartments, etc.), rental rates, construction costs and financial planning. The plan included adding new housing, due to the many years of overcrowding, and renovation of existing residence halls in response to the building audits.

2016 South Campus Study

Description: Building on a preceding study (Phase I), which examined the redevelopment potential of South Campus but without a detailed investigation of each of the unit’s program needs, this study, “Phase II”, provides the University of Washington with a fact-based understanding of the dynamic planning and programming needs, opportunities and strategies for the South Campus area. This includes the Health Science Schools (HSS) of Dentistry, Nursing, Medicine, Public Health, Pharmacy, and the Health Sciences Administration as well as the Colleges of Engineering, the Environment, and Arts and Sciences.

2016 Urban Forest Management Plan

Description: The Urban Forest Management Plan helps align various planning studies with the conservation and enhancement of the University’s Urban Forest. As part of this analysis, the campus is evaluated as a whole and as four distinct neighorhoods to identify multi-scalar aspect of the system that can be improved to acheive our Urban Forestry goals.

2015 Campus Landscape Framework

Description: The Campus Landscape Framework is a comprehensive report of the Seattle campus landscape, identifying what is important to maintain, and where the University should invest resources to more fully nurture a socially and environmentally healthy campus.

2015 West Campus Development Framework

Description: The West Campus Development Framework is intended to help the University position itself for anticipated future development; create a compelling and exciting vision for the West Campus; to understand existing capacity and test future building heights to meet the University’s long term programmatic needs; to develop a variety of scenarios that highlight trade-offs, generate conversation, and inform University decisions; and to inform the next Campus Master Plan.
